CHAPTER SIX

The Life and Works of Professor Mohammad Abdul Jabbar, Chapter Six.

The family continues.

Dr. Samantha Noor Wright

Professor Mohammed Abdul Jabbar accomplished a lot in his life, and his descendants are proud to talk about the heritage and legacy that he has left behind for us. However, there is one accolade the Professor never managed to accomplish throughout his storied life. It has been known as a "Jabbar Curse" for generations and in my research, stretching back to the mid-1800s from our great-grandparents, has never been broken.

On a side note, to be able to trace our records back to pre-1857 Indian Rebellion days just shows how important our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents (and great-great-grandparents now!) took the legacy of our family, preserving the heritage and knowledge over nearly 200 years of uncertainty and evolution.

Nonetheless.

The family know of the Jabbar Curse. Nobody has ever managed to obtain a PhD - a Doctorate post-graduate degree.

Professor Mohammed Abdul Jabbar started his PhD but never finished it due to World War II. His son, Mr. MD Abdul Matin, also started his own PhD but could not finish due to the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. As these PhDs were not completed, the original dream of the Professor had laid dormant since 1940.

Many years later, Mrs Samantha Wright (née Haque, youngest daughter of Choton), sent a very short message to the wider family. On 14 March 2024, Samantha announced, "I am now a Doctor".

The youngest daughter of the Professor's youngest daughter had finally broken the Jabbar Curse. She was the first member of the Jabbar family to obtain a PhD.

It took 84 years for Nana Bhaiya's goal to finally be fulfilled.

The family knows the legacy of Professor Mohammed Abdul Jabbar, but there is now someone who has written herself into the family history by being the first Doctorate in all recorded Jabbar heritage.

A note from the author - I have always tried to keep my personal opinions to a minimum, but I have to admit that Samantha is my sister. As her older brother, I am so proud of my "tiny baby sister" and think it's perfect that Nana Bhaiya's youngest daughter's youngest daughter is the one who broke the duck. She got that PhD, all by herself.

And Nana Bhaiya is looking down on his daughter, Choton, with proud eyes, knowing that Choton has the same proud eyes on her own youngest daughter.

Let us hope this legacy will continue, but as Samantha's older brother, I have no doubt that in 2024, 109 years after Nana Bhaiya was born, his legacy will continue to his next set of great-grandchildren, and Samantha will keep this heritage going through her children and grandchildren.
